The Parkway East Corridor Transportation Network presents unique challenges. The Squirrel Hill Tunnel is a well-known constraint on one of the busiest highways in the region, but the topography and the dense development in the surrounding communities make changes difficult to conceive. Recognizing the unique challenges in the corridor, this project is following a unique approach to understand the transportation needs, and develop solutions that respond to the surrounding communities and commuters who rely on the interstate. Unlike most transportation projects, we do not have a specified improvement planned; rather, we will work with stakeholders, communities and users of the corridor to define, develop and design a project that meets their needs.
